Seriously, some days I feel like I’m starting with a deficit (or is it IN a deficit?). What is your next Instagram post going to look like, Sabrina? Can you really come up with enough content to have multiple posts/week? Will it really make a difference if you don’t also post to TikTok? You’re going to start blogging too? What are you going to write about this week? Will anyone want to watch that YouTube video you’re thinking of creating? How do you expect to have time to create content (ie: SEW) when you have so many social media posts to make? Oh, those quarterly tax filings are due and when was the last time you balanced your books? The list goes on and on.
Thankfully (or maybe not), there are days when I just don’t feel like sewing. Or days when I don’t have a lot of time to spend in my studio and that gives me a bit of a cushion to work on all the other things that come with trying to get a business up and running. My goal is to have “studio time” everyday and anything that relates to the operation of Sabrina Winckler Designs counts towards that.
So, what does that look like? Well, school is back in session and this year DPS changed the bell schedule so my kids don’t get out until 3:50PM. That only leaves me with an hour and 20 minutes of studio time after I am done with my day job (full disclosure – yes, I still have a day job, building a client base takes time!). Starting a project and knowing that you can only work on it for just over an hour can be tough, so instead I worked on my accounting and registered for the sewing conference I’m attending in October. When we got home after running a quick errand it was already after 4 and I decided not to do any more work. Not my most motivated or productive day, but those of you with school aged children will understand how hectic August and back-to-school can be and well, I’m tired, ok? It will get easier as I get used to the new schedule.
Today, my goal is to get my first blog post posted; I also need to finish the “Go” skating dress and work on some skating glove prototypes I’ve designed. I’m determining the average time it takes to make a set so that I can price them appropriately. If you know a skater who would be interested in trying them out, let me know! (Ha, this will also be an experiment to see how many people actually see this post.)
